Leaving Hell

Well, it was 4 am, but I got my bath. The hot water heater got installed. The subfloor is at least in, and I got some of my new tiles down. I still need to grout them. Here's some pics of the process. Did I mention we did this ourselves?!

The picture above is the hot water heater closet with the hot water heater removed. The picture below is the bathroom closet demolished. The pic is from the backside of the closet. This will give me more room in my bedroom closet, and I still have one closet in the bathroom.

The picture above is the new subfloor in what used to be the hot water heater closet, and the ruined floor in my bedroom closet. The picture below is the wet floor after being removed. See the insulation. If you look close, you can probably see under my house.

The picture above is some of my new tile floor. Do you like the pattern? I got the beige tiles from an auction for $1, and the brown tiles from the Habitat for Humanity Outlet Center. I have enough to do the whole closet. The picture below is my blessed new hot water heater on its new platform. I also got that from the Habitat for Humanity Outlet Center. Yay that part's done!

Join Me in Hell

We are the poster children for bad vacations, bad luck, and the chaos theory. I don't know if this is because of something we've done or just God's way of saying "Don't come out of your house ever".

This weekend was just another lesson. Everything that could go wrong did go wrong. Probably one of the worst weekends ever. Let's see. What happened first. Well, Thursday night/Friday, my little chihuahua, I hope I spelled that right, died. I say it was from the dog food he was eating. Steve said perhaps he was bitten by a spider and had an allergic reaction. This is a plausible theory, I suppose, but not a justified one. He had dog food in his mouth. Not wet dog food. Dry dog food. Steve doesn't quite believe my theory because our two other dogs had eaten earlier in the evening and are quite fine. I have tried to tell him that our other dogs have the constitution of cockroaches. The only things left living after a nuclear war will be cockroaches and our mastiff and staffordshire terrier. Anyway, I was up until 3 am on Friday burying the dog. A task I did not love and certainly don't want to repeat in the future.

That brings us to Saturday. Saturday morning I wake up early, thank goodness, to take K to an Easter Egg Hunt. I hear water running so I run around the house to find it. Actually, deep in my heart I knew where it was coming from. It only took me about 30 seconds to find it. The hot water heater had exploded sometime in the night and now my bedroom closet is flooded. You see my bedroom closet butts up to where the water heater and the furnace are stored. Of course, there are no water cutoff valves in the house. The only one is outside about 300 feet, and it has snowed! 3 inches. The most we've had all year or in 2 years. Steve gets it shut off, and we begin to clean up. We discover that the hot water heater has obviously been leaking for awhile because half of my closet floor is gone. I mean gone. The only thing there is the linoleum. There is NO floor in the hot water heater/furnace closet. Hooray! So we have no hot water. I need/want a bath. I don't know which. So, today we go get a water heater. The good part is I get to put tile back in my closet and redo the lighting.

I don't usually go into my bad luck status but this weekend was just too much. Plus, there are other things going on with the house that make me wish I had good luck. Thank goodness K has enough good luck for both Steve and I. She's like luck personified. I still think she's the only reason we haven't been struck down by lightning.
