Spring Fling and 2 giveaways

Of course, today I am late when there is so much and a lot of bloggie parties going on!

So, I have been sitting here debating on what to giveaway for the Secret Is In The Sauce Spring Fling. I really had and still have no clue. I don't own anything nice to give away so I've had to come up with something.

Since I couldn't make a choice and because K would be mad if I didn't give the one thing away, I'm going to do two giveaways. The one giveaway is for a 2 year subscription to Organic Gardening magazine. Yay! I just recently subscribed to this magazine. They have a website where you can get tips and info on gardening organically.



The second giveaway was handpicked by K and is special to us. We love to go to our "secret" beach and look for sea glass. Well, the other day we found just an absolute ton of glass so we are sharing the love. What do I want with sea glass you might ask. Well, it looks lovely put into jars and put in front of the window. You can make jewelry out of it. Whatever. You'll get some pottery, some glass, and maybe a little surprise.

Secret Beach and Pirate Treasure

I have recently discovered a small beach along the Chesapeake Bay. It's about an hour from our house as we are on the ocean side. It's delightful. It's on a small island and only about 2000 ft long. Not a lot of people can fit on this beach which is okay because the most I've ever seen there is 8 people.

When I was little, I used to be afraid of swimming in the Bay. It had something to do with the dark water which I know now comes from the sandy bottom and the algae. Plus, I used to hear about all the jellyfish that would be in the water around July and August. Jellyfish and I are not friends. I love the Bay now. My daughter and I can actually swim without getting pulled by a rip current or smashed by a wave. Besides who wants to deal with all those crowds at the ocean!

We have taken to going down there at least once a weekend. It's a great place to go looking for treasures. The locals tell me back in the day there was a hotel overlooking the secret beach. It burned down years ago, but we're still finding treasures from it. We find some of the prettiest seashells, bricks, and seaglass. I bring home a basket of treasures every time I go.

The pottery is my favorite even more than the sea glass. I just love the different pieces you can find and trying to guess what they used to be. I still love finding the glass. I have found some really beautiful colors like black, which is actually dark olive green, red, lavender, pink, orange, and pale yellow. I've even found some pieces from a jadeite bowl. I get a lot of fascinating shapes but not a lot of nuggets. I think it has something to do with the calmness of the water and the thickness of the glass.

I'm hoping to make a lot of things with glass. Perhaps I'll make candleholders or windchimes, and we all know I'll be making some jewelry. Until next time, my duckies!
