Upcycle, School, and Shopping Sprees

How do you like my Upcycle pieces? They are sawblade shelves made from discarded old sawblades, big steel wire from an old dollar store basket, and copper wire from a burnt out load coil. I had a lot of fun creating these for the Upcycle contest on etsy. Upcycling " coined by William McDonaugh and Michael Braugart in their book on ecologically intelligent design, Cradle to Cradle,"(from http://www.etsy.com/contest.php) is the act of taking something that was going to be thrown away and transforming it into something of greater use and value. It was a lot of fun. I had never done anything quite like this before. I really enjoyed doing it and plan to do it again in the future. Cross your fingers that I win! I wonder if I will be able to sell them.
Today is back to school for my daughter. Hooray! I don't know how I am going to survive those 3 months she will off for the summer. It'll be torture, I'm telling you.
Oops! I went on a gemstone shopping spree this weekend. I call it a spree because I couldn't seem to stop myself, and I didn't really need the stones. It was fun though. I can't wait to get them. If anyone finds out, I'm just going to say it was because my daughter was driving me crazy, and I didn't know what I was doing. Should work. Right?!

What kind of gemstones did you get???

right now I am picturing you when you get them tossing them up in the air and almost bathing in them, like one of the crazy Gabor ladies...you know who I'm talking about, the woman who slapped the cop...which one was she?

lol. I got some agate, amythest flowers, chrisoberyl flowers, a jade skull, sugilite, and a bunch of others.

Uh, I think that was Eva, but I don't remember. Too funny, though.
