In Love with Spring

Spring is in the air! I can smell it, feel it, and almost touch it. I'm hoping that stupid little groundhog was wrong, and spring will come early. Even though, I know, technically, there really is more winter and spring will not be here officially until my birthday.

Even so, I am starting to plan my garden. I love to garden even with that black thumb I have. I'm thinking of adding more rows to my vegetable garden and debating what veggies to grow. Yeah, I know. I did this last year too. There are just so many veggies and not enough room. I like to grow enough to eat fresh but still have some to freeze for the winter. Boy, did that come in handy this winter! If you have just recently found my blog, I just started doing real veggie growing last year.

(On a side note, the Mr. Man has BBC america on, and they have some men doing some tribal dance thing, and it's really distracting.)

Back to my garden. I have had requests from K to grow edamame, mung beans, corn, peas, lima beans, peanuts, and some exotic watermelon. Mr. Man has requested potatoes, garlic, and peppers. I personally like fresh tomatoes, lots of herbs, and want to try some broccoli and blackberries and so many other things! Oh, the dilemma! I'm thinking of adding some veggies in containers to sprinkle throughtout the yard and garden as well cause veggies can be so pretty.

Then there is the planning of my flower beds. This is the department I need serious help in. I just don't know what to do with them. Some years they look so bare then other years it looks like a florist shop exploded in my beds. I want something gorgeous and well planned. Does anybody do landscaping plans over the internet? (I have pics!) Possibly for jewelry. Just give me a plan and tell me what to get and I'll be good. I'm so horrible at decision making.

I don't know what to suggest, because I don't even have a yard and suck at gardening, but the past few years I have been getting into it more- last year I planted some stuff in pots for my porch- and I would love to see what you do with yours! Have you heard of square foot gardening? I read about it briefly not that long ago on their site. I am pretty sure the pretense of it is to grow a lot in a small space, so it might be for you if you want to make the most of the space you have! Just a thought :) Best of luck with your planning!

This site should keep you busy for some time! I keep looking at it, yearning to plant. Where we live it's late May sometimes before it's warm enough outside and we often get an early frost in Sept. I love garden tomatoes, but they don't even get a chance to get ripe.

I so wish I could be a person who enjoyed gardening.

I just don't. At all.

Ooh, love both those sites! Thanks!

I don't think gardening is for everyone, Diva. It's like therapy for me though. I get to be in my own little world.

Jewel,

I think gardening is all about trial & error. Just don't get in over your head or you won't have time & it will become a chore. Some veggies need to be planted & harvested early, some need a longer growing season & some just want the good old warm sun. So I plan my garden seasonally. I would just buy a big book. Sit down in Borders with a latte & a scone and read until you know which book has all your answers.

For flowers-it's a work in progress for me. At home I have all shade and I want to scream. At the lake I have all sun & I don't know who will water during the week. Where is Dear Abby when you need her??

Now you have me worried!!!

xoxo

it's so funny that you are planning on planting blackberries. They grow wild EVERYWHERE here and people spend a lot of time trying to get rid of them.

The hope of Spring coming is definitely in our minds. I was shopping for a houseplant today.

It looks like you have lots of space for a wonderful garden!

I'm in love with spring too, but *sigh* it snowed a foot on Monday, so spring is very far off!
