Today I thought I would share some tips for cleaning sterling silver jewelry. Sterling(and copper) are easy to clean as long as you keep up with it. This first tip is something really simple to do and can be done every so often to keep your sterling nice and shiny.
#1. Fill a small bowl or cup with lukewarm water, a little mild detergent, and a dash of baking soda. Mix it up and allow your sterling pieces to soak in it for a couple of hours. It will come out as shiny and new as the day you purchased it. This can also be done with copper and is safe for most gemstones. So simple and easy and no chemicals.
#2. When you are finished wearing a sterling piece for the day, wipe it down with a soft cloth before putting it in a jewelry box.
A great anti- tarnish jewelry box is made byLori Greiner. I have one and it is sensational. Works like a charm. She has many sizes and shapes. They really are fantastic.
So, I hope you take these really simple cleaning tips to heart. A lot of people use products that are not safe for all types of jewelry like pieces with gemstones. My tips are really easy and contain no chemicals.
If you're in the mood for some new sterling pieces, I have several listed in my shop. Like these pictured- Dragonfly Sonata ring and the All Seeing Eye ring. The last one pictured, Art Deco Love Cuff, will be available later today.

Thoughts on the Weekend and Another Copper Cuff
Ah, it's Friday! The weekend has arrived. Yes, the weekend. When you can forget the workweek and the troubles at hand and just relax. Or so they say. I see it as the time when everyone is home and driving me nuts. I hardly ever get anything done, and the only good thing is I get to sleep late. The house will be a wreck by Monday morning, but that's secretly the reason I put K in her after school program. You'd be surprised at how much I can get accomplished with no one in the house. Now if only I knew how to do all the remodel jobs that need to be done, I'd be set. I'm typing all this while hiccuping and holding my breath to get rid of the hiccups so I really have no idea what I'm saying.
Did you all notice my new little gadget over there on the side? I have finally got a newsletter together. It's a once a month thing. Don't want anyone getting tired of me. It's filled with my latest happenings, secret sales, and lots of other special things. You know- the usual newsletter kind of stuff. I would be very appreciative and excited if you signed up for the newsletter, but only if you really want to. Although, I might get some kind of complex if no one wants to.
Latest item in my shop this week is an oldie but a goodie that some might have forgotten about. My Asian inspired, art deco Blossom cuff. How's that for getting multi-cultures and styles?! It is a copper cuff with the loveliest copper flower on top. Just the thing you need to keep gloomies away in the winter. It can be found in my shop.
Have a great and relaxing weekend, my duckies!

Almost Famous
It's out! Well, I don't think it's actually out yet, but I have received my gratis copies of Step by Step Wire Jewelry Magazine. My cuff looks fantastic while I look a bit scary. That's why I'm only posting the pic of the cuff. I'm on page 20 in case you rush out to get a copy. Right before the pictured cover piece and the third project in. They even mentioned it on the cover which was something I never even thought about.

I am too excited. I have been published before, but this is the first time with my jewelry. I was unsure at first of telling people how to make my things, but I don't really do too much wire only work anymore so I thought it would be okay. I'm just tickled pink. I think I might have to go to Barnes and Noble when the magazine comes out and buy one just so I can show them that I'm in the magazine. lol. Maybe next time I'm published it will be in a huge magazine saying how fantastic my stuff is and everyone should buy some. So, go to my shop and buy some before the rush.
And, just for a bit of randomness. I took a pic of a beginning peach. I thought it was just so pretty after it rained with all the green. Besides, maybe some people don't know what a beginning peach looks like. Now to keep the stink bugs off of it so I can actually eat a peach.

Short and Sweet
I might get this blog back on track at some point in time. It seems to have fallen by the wayside.
Got K's report card. It was all A's and B's, and she brought the grades up that I wanted her too. Yay! Now if I could just get her to care about schoolwork. She used to love to do workbooks and educational software and schoolwork wasn't too bad. This year it's been a struggle to get her to do anything. She's only in the 3rd grade. It shouldn't be a struggle with these teenager issues. Grrrrr.
There's something in my chimney again. I'm a little scared as to what it is. I say something because the bird cage is on the chimney. I even checked it myself. I don't know what it is about my chimney these things love so much. I'm afraid I'm going to get eaten one day by something that crawls out of my chimney. Good thing I have all those remodel materials piled up in front of it.

News at JSD. I was on the front page the other day thanks to Elements by Dawn. Yay! Thank you to the Diva for telling me and taking this fabulous screenshot. There I am on the bottom row in the middle. I also relisted that cuff you see pictured. It seems I have a few things that need to be relisted. I'm just falling more and more behind. I might have to put myself through jewelry bootcamp. All things can be found in my shop.

Time Flies
I do apologize my lovely blog friends. This house thing is killing me. I'm going to need a vacation after all this. Why does my yard have to be so big?!
The lady in charge is supposed to be here today after making an appointment last week. We'll see if she actually shows and what she has to say. At least things should be getting back to normal after this week.
So, what I have missed? Anything exciting? I, personally, have so many things to blog about like my seedlings, my new items for my shop, and my new vintage fave that I'm keeping for myself.
There was an article yesterday in the Storque about the challenges. Very lovely. I'm crossing my fingers that I don't sound like an idiot to anyone. It's great promotion for the challenges. I do love doing them and have been so surprised that they've lasted as long as they have.
Oh, now for the pics so you know what they are. They just happen to be the latest in my little etsy shop. The first is a sterling silver bangle accented with a freeform/recycled piece of silver. One of Steve's friends rescued that for me at his job. I have a couple of other pieces that he gave me as well, but that one was the best for that piece. It's been accented with a sterling silver sphere. Next is my latest edition to my wedding collection. A very pretty copper Art Deco style tiara. Very fashionable and vintage-y. Plus, I love that it's not too tall. You know I have that problem with making things big and chunky. I don't know why I have such a hard time making delicate things.
Oh, and I have to find time to blog about my newest tv craze, The Real Housewives of NYC. Talk about catty and social climbers! Until tomorrow...(Yes, I will blog again tomorrow.)

Out of this World
It's been a long week, and I have been very remiss in writing. K has been sick this week. Not bad, but she has a cough. And, when she has a cough, it generally interferes with her asthma so I keep her home just to make sure nothing bad happens. Besides, I found out a lot of kids with coughs are getting sent home. K had 4 other kids out in her class. She only has 13.
I have been on a roll making things this week. I've actually made and listed two new things in my shop this week. Pat myself on the back. The first is a copper cuff which is my foray into abstract art. I really quite love abstract art so this was fun to do. Plus, I got to use enamels which is rare for my designs. The second thing I created/listed is something I adore. I will not worry if anyone buys this because I will just keep it for myself. It's marvelous if I do say so myself. It's a sterling silver band ring with a sterling domed disc. The disc has been accented with sterling tubes and wire. The best part is the faceted ruby that has been tube set. I love this ring. Both can be found in my shop.
Well, my time is up for today. So many things to do and so little time. Don't forget tomorrow is Home Improvement Roundup complete with a tutorial. My first home improvement tutorial so make sure you stop by.

Winter Doldrums
Happy Valentine's, my duckies! I wanted to make sure I told all of my lovely readers. Won't you be my valentine? There would be a big red kiss there if I knew how to do it.
Well, as usual, I'm sitting in the dark drinking peppermint tea and thinking about all the things I should be doing. Notice I said peppermint tea instead of coffee. I have officially been off coffee for two weeks, and I only miss it if I get too close to one of Steve's cups. I fear this post may go out of control in too many directions so if it does please forgive me. I will try to hold it together, but I'm not promising anything.
So, we all know I'm tired of winter, and I'm sure those of you that just had that snowstorm probably are as well. I can feel the winter doldrums encroaching on my creative spirit. The cold and dreariness is bringing me down. In a way, I envy those of you that have snow. At least it's not brown or grey and miserable. Lots of creativeness in snow. Snow angels and snowmen and sledding and snowflakes. Yep, better than chicken manure being put on the fields.
The doldrums have me down, and it's hard to work out of it so I'm trying to find new things to inspire me. I've been thinking about my spring collection- Midnight in the Garden. I've all ready made a few pieces like the Asian cuff and my Dragonfly Sonata ring. Both pictured and in my shop. I have lots more in the works(like a Koi fish ring) but need to add a few more pieces to make it round out. I'm trying to let my wedding addiction inspire me too. Now, I have no urge to be married, but I love to see other people get married. Plus, I want all of them to be wearing my pieces. Selfish, isn't it? I just think brides on their wedding day can make everything beautiful. Sometimes, these new inspirations aren't enough, and that's when I have my worst time because when I get sidetracked that's it. I've fallen off the road, rolled into a ditch, and then down a hill.
Speaking of snow. The sun is just starting to come up across the back field, and I realized sometime in the middle of the windy night the pouring rain switched to snow. I have snow on the ground and on my magnolia tree, and it's beautiful. Plus, it's just enough that by later today it either won't be here or won't be much of a bother. But, it's refreshing to my poor old soul. Like everything is fresh and beautiful again.
If you made it this far, I applaud you. I told you I would be all over the place. Soooo.. On this special Valentine's Day(yes, I know it's a sort of made up holiday, but I think it can have really good intentions.), I send you big jewel covered hugs and kisses, and I wish you much love and happiness today and every day!

Oversleeping, Love is in the Air, and Fairies
Oops. I overslept this morning. Dang it. Of all the mornings, I oversleep on the day I have to meet with K's teacher. You see, K is not paying attention in class or reading directions. Basically, she is just skirting by on the natural smarts that God gave her.
When I finally woke up this morning, I found that my Art Deco Love Cuff had been chosing as today's Art of the Day over on EBSQ. Their theme this week is love is in the air since Valentine's is tomorrow. Plus, my little cuff can be made into an Ecard. How fantastic is that?!I started making my wedding tiaras again in case you know anyone getting married. I love making these tiaras. I got to see the pics of my last custom tiara on the bride recently, and they were phenomenal. I have several in the planning stage including a couple of combs. This one is called the Fairy Princess Tiara. It's inspired by fairies, mermaids, and all things fantasy. I love the look of the copper with the peacock and champagne colored pearls. It can be found in my Etsy shop.

Snow Day
Snow day!
Yes, with a whole inch(well, maybe a little more) on the ground we have a snow day. Our first of the year. I really don't know why we have a snow day other than they couldn't shovel their sidewalks off. We are one of the few school districts around with a snow day.
Now, as a kid, I loved snow days. Things have changed. As a stay at home mom, I hate snow days because they wait until I have to get up before dawn to let me know that school is closed. Then while my child gets to sleep in, I'm up for the day. Seriously, now it was done snowing yesterday by 6 in the evening. Did they really think it was going to melt when the temp was going to drop to 18 degrees?!
Well, that brings me to my newest item in my shop. The piece pictured is my Asian Blossom Cuff from my 2008 Spring Collection- Moonlight in the Garden. I'm hoping to bring spring faster. You can find it and a few others from my new collection in my shop.

I'm Back!
Apologies for my being away so long!
Let's play catch up for a little while. Really truly not much has happened. Still haven't finished painting my mother's house. I'm on the upstairs landing so not much further to go. Hopefully, just two more trips. Cross your fingers for me. Still remodeling my studio and house. I cannot wait to show you photos of what we have done so far. Remember the roses growing inside the house? Well, they're gone, and that particular room is almost finished except for drywall and all that jazz. Moved on to the next room and have replaced the windows and started to vault the ceiling. I've learned how to put siding up. It's just going to be beautiful when done.
My biggest news of all is that I will be in the summer preview issue of Step by Step Wire Jewelry. How exciting is that?! They want me to write a tutorial of my copper bubbles cuff. I'm so excited. I'm almost finished writing the tutorial. Now I have to take step by step pics then my headshot. I'm not so keen on the headshot. You don't suppose I could pass my Elephant spokesmodel off as me, do you? Oh, and you may have noticed the new Squidoo logo on the side. Yep I do have a lens so go check it out, leave me a comment, blog about it. They are actually quite fun to make, but I'm not quite good at getting people to it. lol.
The piece in the pic is one of my latest. It's from my men's collection that I'm working really hard to fill. It seems to be received very well by customers on Etsy and off. This particular piece is a simple sterling silver band ring. I wonder if men know how hard it is to design for them. Anyway, it can be found in my shop. If you would like to see the rest of my men's collection, check out my for men's category in my Etsy shop. There's only a couple of things so it won't kill you, and I'd love to have some feedback.

WooHoo!
Boy, it's been a long week, and I am so thankful that the weekend is finally here.
I hinted at a surprise a couple of days ago(I got sidetracked). Well, now to unveil my big news. We closed on our house on Tuesday so now it not only is officially ours, but now it officially has a mortgage. Only a ten year mortgage because we bought the place so cheaply, but it is still ours. Now if I want to take out a wall, I will have no problem with it. So, in light of my big news, I'm going to have a sale in my shop through the weekend. Get everything 25% off when you, my lovely blog readers, mention "House07".
You may have noticed that bright and shiny new cuff in the picture. That is my challenge item for this week. This week's challenge was to create something inspired by your first job. My first job happened to be a cashier at a local mom and pop grocery store, and every spring we would sell flowers. So, I created this copper cuff with three handcrafted copper flowers. There is a very light patina on the flowers to give them a more antique feel. I really love how it turned out. It reminds me of a corsage. It can be found in my shop and is called In Bloom.
Have a great weekend everyone, and stay safe! Now I'm going to go take a nap.

Summer All Year
I am so excited. I decided to look up some summer art programs for K this morning and happened upon a silversmithing class in my area. How exciting! This is the first I have heard of this class, and I've searched far and wide for a class. I would really love to take this class, and K would love to take her class. So, now the key is to find out how to afford both classes which were actually cheaper than I thought they would be.
Here's that ring I told you about. It's rather cute, don't you think? I love the width of it, and the carved flower really sets the copper flower off. Plus, since it is a cuff ring, almost anyone could wear this comfortably. It really is like wearing summer all year. It can be found in my shop.
Come back tomorrow because if all goes well I may have a little surprise for you. Wink, wink.

The weekend, collections, and a jaguar
Oh, boy, what a long weekend! I hope everyone had an enjoyable one.
Saturday I actually got to go yard saling. I love to go to yard sales. We went all over the countryside. Of course, I didn't find anything but one little elephant planter. K and Steve found a computer, ionizer thingy, and toys. They had the car jampacked, but alas, none of it was for me. Just once I would like to have a day where they find little, and I find everything. lol. Sunday it just rained. Rained all day. Blech!
So, this week I will be relisting a few things in my shop. Today it happens to be my jaguar bracelet. It happens to be one of my first pieces of my special sterling silver filigree. I really love that smokey quartz jaguar. He's really very pretty.
Okay. Here's the idea I stole from Debbie over at Craftymoose. Well, not really since she said to do it in her blog post. Collections. What do you collect? Let's see.
1.Elephants. By far my biggest collection. I love elephants. Trunks up or trunks down. Doesn't matter. You can see a few of them in my pics. A very few. At last count, I had almost 200, and I've added a few since then. Most of them are small or on the verge of being tiny.
2. Horses. I have collected horses since I was a child, but I have become very picky as to what horses I collect now.
3. Paint. Yes, paint. It's a very weird addiction that I cannot stop. I buy paint, like wall paint, all the time. I'm very weird.
4. Mirrors. I didn't even realize that I collected mirrors until I started doing this list. Another of my idiosyncrasies. I really believe that it is because I have never lived anywhere that had enough mirrors. Not that I like to look at myself all the time, but it would be nice to at least see if I just look horrible before I go out.

Creativeversary
Luckily, I had just the most perfect cabochon from Willow Glass. I fell in love with this cab when I first saw it and have been holding it for just the right project. From day one of the challenge, I knew what I wanted to do, but that proved easier than actually accomplishing it. With my new found skill of soldering, I created a bezel for the cab and attached it to the cuff. I added a little chain around the cab to give it a vintage look. The cuff itself has a nice texture to it. Seems I like texture more than shiny. All in all, I think I like it. lol. It looks better on than it does just sitting there. It can be found in my shop.
I didn't get to finish the ring I was talking about, but it will be finished soon so check back. I really like it, and it isn't even all together yet. Plus, I had a sudden moment of inspiration for another piece that I hope I will be able to make they way I see it. Oh, and I plan to go on a yard sale trip this weekend. Hope I find lots of interesting stuff. Check back next week for all that and more. lol.

A rescue and new piece
Well, yesterday I went to paint my mother's house and discovered my brother had rescued a turtle from the backyard. Of course, being my brother, he just put it on the porch. I offered to take him to the woods since I live in the middle of nowhere. So, K and I walked him into the woods near the river. It was so cute. I wish I had had my camera. You could almost see him jumping up and down. When I last saw him, he was heading deeper in the woods. Farewell, dear turtle!
That story actually goes well with my newest piece. A brand new hammered copper cuff with leaf cutouts is currently available in my store. I am pleasantly surprised the leaves turned out looking like leaves. lol. I am always amazed when things look like how I wanted them to look. The light hammering gave this cuff the little extra specialness I was looking for. Stop by and check it, as well as my other pieces, because they could all use a little love.
Until tomorrow...

Milestones and Birds
I truly hope it is sunny and calm somewhere. Let me know where so I can move there.
I'm going to move Home Improvement Roundup to Thursday just because I can, and Hooray! I finally got to over 100 sales! I'm so happy. Thanks to Debbie for pushing me over the hump. It really does feel great, though truth be told, I never thought I would have this many sales on Etsy. Granted some of them are trades, but only you and I know that. Now let's hope it doesn't completely slow down from here.
Hard at work on new projects, I just finished this one last night. I love the shape of this solid copper cuff. It's actually quite a simple piece, but it's the design that really sets it off. I also hammered it because I felt it needed that technique to finish it. It will be in my shop later this morning, and once again, mention anniversary to receive 25% off your purchase.
Forgot to tell you yesterday about the exciting incident on Sunday. A bird somehow flew down my chimney into the fireplace then beat against the doors until he could get out. So, I have this blackbird, and not a small one mind you, flying around my house being chased by my 300 lb dog. So, we have to leave the front door open in the middle of the storm and chase it out with a broom. Never a dull moment. Then last night I go to the car so I can pick Steve up and discover that I have a flat tire. I'm not talking just regular flat. I mean, this thing completely withered and died. I have never seen a flatter tire that hadn't blown out. Wonder what will happen today.

10 facts about me
Fresh off the Jewel Street Designs presses so to speak is this bracelet. This cuff has been sitting on my table for about 2 months waiting to be finished. I finally got Steve to drill the holes because, you see, I cannot drill more than 1 hole without screwing something up. I finally forced him to drill them. After that, this cuff was a breeze. In my personal opinion, it is the perfect width cuff. Not too big and not too small. I riveted aluminium bands in a crisscross pattern along the sides. I like riveting. It was so much fun. If this cuff tickles your fancy, it will be available in my shop in just a little while. Remember I'm having that anniversary sale as well. Mention anniversary during checkout to receive 25% off.
The winners of the beads4you winter beading challenge were announced. I somehow missed this announcement but was made aware of it by someone else. I did not win! Boo! But, my headband did get an honorable mention as "most likely to be worn by faerie". I think that is pretty neat and special for me as it was my first headband. Congrats to the two winners!
Okay. So I was tagged by Jenn and Gillian to list 10 little known facts about me. Really, it wasn't that hard because I am a virtual recluse. Not much is known about me. I tried to pick out the 10 things that only 3 people other than myself would know- my mother, Steve, and K. So here we go:
1. I am totally, undeniably, deathly afraid of the dark. Always have been. Still cannot sleep without some sort of light on. I can't even go outside at night without some kind of light on. If the lights go out at night, I completely freeze up. Because of this, I cannot stop myself from buying candles and hurricane lamps.
2. I have seen every "Halloween"/Michael Meyers movie there is. All 8 or however many there are. I've even seen the ones like 3 and 4 that they don't even show on tv unless they are doing some kind of marathon. He's my favorite horror villian. He's comical and bad all at the same time.
3. I have a shoe fetish which is odd in light of fact #4. I love shoes. I would have a closet full of just shoes if I could. I especially like shoes that I know I will never wear, and really it is not about wearing the shoes because if I'm at home I never have shoes on my feet. It's just about the shoes.
4. Feet. I hate them. I don't even like my own feet. In fact, the only feet I don't mind are baby feet. I don't like feet near me and most especially not touching me. I won't even touch socks that have touched feet. Feet are gross.
5. Before I started Jewel Street Designs, I was employed as a roofer. My only other job since K has been born. Truthfully, I didn't mind doing it. In fact, I kind of liked it. There was something about being up on a roof drinking coffee in the wee hours of the morning. THe worst part was tear off, but then we could go to the hill(the dump).
6. I lived in a camper at one point in time. I mean, one of those attach to a trailer hitch on the back of your car and drive to whereever kind of campers. This is a fact that I do not go around boasting about. It was a neccessity though.
7. I'm allergic to spiders. Even the most innoccuous spiders will cause to me to swell really big. I know this because I was bit by a spider on my face a couple of years ago and had to go to the hospital because half my face was swelled up like a tomato. Still have the scar from the bite.
8. I have a honest to goodness birthmark-on my butt! It's grown smaller(or maybe my butt has just gotten bigger) over the years, but it's still there. I'm the only one in my family with one. Maybe that means I'm adopted.
9. There is this whole ritual I have to preform with my blankets when I go to bed. It drives everyone nuts including my dog. First of all, I have to have blankets I don't care if it's 100degrees outside. Then they have to be pulled up one at a time and stretched over my head. They all have to be completely even and completely even on the bed. God forbid if anyone tries to get more covers.
10. My best little known fact. I am a wasp whisperer. It's true. I seem to be able to talk to wasps or have the right kind of smell or something. I've never been stung by one. They land on me and walk around. I can even stick my hand on top of a nest and be fine. Don't ask how I know about this because that is a story for another post, but it's true.
Well that's my 10 facts. I don't know how exciting they are, but that's them. Now I'm supposed to tag 10 other people, but truthfully, I don't know that many people who blog. Plus, since I am so slow, everyone I do know has all ready been tagged. So, I'm tagging Steph and Craftymoose(even though I know she has been tagged by Gillian too). If I think of anyone else to tag, I'll let you know.

The Crappy Post
I'm glad to hear that I am not alone in the wanting of plastic surgery. There were actually few that you lovely readers listed that I'm contemplating adding to my list.
K is home from school for Easter break. This should be interesting. You see, my mom usually gives me a break every other weekend, but either one or the other of them has been sick for the past two times she was supposed to go. I have found that I rely on those breaks. I don't know why since K and I usually get along so well with each other. We'll see since this weekend there is an Easter Egg Hunt at the school and the easter bunny comes to visit(who hasn't even started her basket).
Once again, I am behind on my challenge item. The piece I had originally wanted to do did not turn out the way I wanted, and I won't even take a pic of it. So now I am forced to come up with another idea. I have nothing. Nothing I said. Well, maybe one idea but I don't know how it is going to work. The cuff in the picture is my latest. It really put itself together. I just allowed the bracelet to follow the form of the bronzite centerpiece. Plus, I am on this total geometric kick lately. Don't ask me why. You can find the Bronzite and Copper Bubbles Cuff in my shop. Sorry for the totally boring post. Now I'm off to work on my challenge item. Actually, drink the rest of my coffee then work on my challenge item.

The Dreaded Wednesday
Well, here's my last entry to the beads4you winter beading challenge on Etsy. I would've liked to do two more. Goodness knows I have enough beads, but I just don't think I'm going to have time since the deadline is March 31st. I might try to do one more. We'll see. Anyway, I thought my new found technique of weaving wire would be perfect to go with the hematite rondelles and teardrops that we were supposed to use. It is a cuff- my favorite type of bracelet- so it should fit most people. It can be found in my shop. Now to finish my Creative Challenge piece for this week.
